| The Benaki collection in Athens is renowned as one of the most extensive of its kind in the world, spanning eight millennia of Greek history and prehistory. Through a series of scholarly essays providing an historical context to the Benaki's collections, and colour reproductions of the most important pieces from each period, Greek Treasures provides fascinating insight into the life and beauty of the Greek world through its history. It covers Hellenic antiquity, the transition from a Graeco-Roman legacy to medieval Byzantium, the centuries that Greece was under foreign rule, and the intellectual awakening and struggle for the formation of the Greek nation.
