| The hope for a better life led thousands of Greeks to leave their homeland for America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Weathering terrible hardships upon their arrival, the Greeks worked hard to become a part of American society. Even though they have become part of the American mainstream, Greek Americans today still cherish many of the same institutions brought over by their ancestors. |
