A Photographic Journey - a nostalgic look at tradition, religion, history and the spirit of the people of Greece - presented in colorful & memorable images by world-famous photographer Michael Nikas Dismatsek. Alexis Alexandris, Consul General of Greece, calls this book ""one of the finest books on Greece. There is no other book that comes close to representing the true spirit of Greece and its people. The photography is outstanding!" Travel writer Wary K. Nolan describes Michael's imagery as ""crisp, inviting, full of color, texture and spirit ... like the country itself! The colors are so pure and brilliant, they're almost painful to the eye." Including it in the 2002 Top 100 book-list, the Globe & Mail writes: ""Photographer Michael Nikas of Burlington, Ont., returned to the land of his birth for this pictorial odyssey. And what a glorious treat that journey is - filled with the many colors of Greece and its people. Images that linger include a white church against an incredibly blue sea, a field of poppies and two cabbies captured in a heated argument."
Michael's award winning photography has taken him to exotic destinations for magazines and advertisements. In a feature article, a Canadian National Magazine referred to Michael as "one of Canada's busiest photographers". His travel assignments include Greece, France, Scotland, Bahamas, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, and many major cities in Canada and United States. Michael's photography appeared in such magazines as 'Destinations', 'Omni', 'Time', 'Cdn Int'l Airlines Inflight', 'City & Country Home', 'Audio & Video Interiors', 'Canada 3000 Travel', 'USGA Golf Journal' and most recently, in 'HOLA SUN Cuba Vacations Magazine' plus many others. Born 1951 in Thessaloniki, Greece, Michael Nikas and his family moved to Canada when he was twelve. "It took me no time at all to become accustomed to my new life in Canada. I loved blending in and fitting in with new people! That is why I do well in Travel Photography now - I encounter new angles and what is truly gratifying, is sharing my vision with thousands of readers world wide".
"My book on Greek culture brought me face to face with the most cheerful, hospitable, fun-loving and unpredictable people in the world - the breathtaking scenery, the historical beauty, brilliant sunshine and blue seas - the many colors and textures of my homeland - the sounds, flavors and aromas that my ancestors enjoyed - to be rediscovered and shared with the rest of the world in a visually stimulating way - it is my dream come true" explains Michael Nikas with enthusiasm.
Michael is a Commercial Photographer based in Canada. His wife Winnie (Niki) shares his passion for photography - they work in the Studio and travel together with sons Ryan, Michael, Nicholas and Yanni as much as possible. Michael Nikas is fluent in Greek and has family members living in Thessaloniki and Athens.
'Book One - Childhood Memories' is Michael's first published book and is the first of a four-part book series under the heading 'GREECE REDISCOVERED'. With total creative control from start to finish, Michael is self-publishing all books in the series. The quality of the books is unsurpassed and each one is destined to become a collector's item. The Globe & Mail included GREECE REDISCOVERED in their 'Top 100 Books' list of 2002. Alexis Alexandris, Consul General of Greece, calls GREECE REDISCOVERED "one of the finest books on Greece. There is no other book that comes close to representing the true spirit of Greece and its people. The photography is outstanding!" |
